The Giftlands gang: Dario’s story
We at Giftlands want to give our readers a special treat. Every two months we will tell you about our characters and where they came from. We will tell you how Dario arrived on the farm; what Ellie’s mom taught her; where Arnie came from; how Tuma got his beautiful soprano voice and much more! Dario’s story
Nala and Tuma’s dad won Dario at a competition, he brought the baby donkey back to the farm as a gift for Ms. Hennie. She was so happy and proud of the little donkey and she could not wait to see him grow up.
An Italian family owned the little donkey and his parents before he lived on the farm. So, Ms. Hennie decided to give him a proper Italian name. She named the baby donkey Dario and Dario absolutely loved his name!
Dario was a unique donkey and he fitted in perfectly on the farm. Ms. Hennie loved little Dario so much that she made him a bed inside her house. She put down a bowl of water for him and another one with hay. This is why Dario sometimes behaves like a dog even though he knows he is a donkey.
Dario loved hanging out with Tuti and Ms. Hennie when he was young, and he could listen to the two of them talking for hours. Ms. Hennie and Tuti spoke in rhyme most of the time, so Dario had to listen carefully to understand what they were talking about. Dario soon developed a knack for not only listening but thinking about everything as well.
As each new member of the Gift Gang arrived on the farm, his heart grew with love for them. Dario always wanted to please everyone around him, he wanted everybody to be happy and have fun, and he is still like that today! Dario wanted to play with everyone on the farm every day and he was never happier than learning everything there was to learn on the farm.
Dario’s life was perfect once Gabriel and Arnie arrived on the farm. He loved the way that Arnie knew the word of God and that he could so easily pray about everything. Dario learnt a lot about God from Arnie. He knew instantly that he was safe and secure when he met Gabriel for the first time. Dario gets anxious sometimes, but he knows that with Gabriel near he has nothing to worry about!
He couldn’t imagine life without the Gift Gang, Ms. Hennie and Gabriel. He would not change his life on the farm for anything on Earth.
He is just a donkey, but donkeys know things and he knows that life is good on the Giftlands farm.
